The purpose of this advanced form of gaslighting is for the benefit of "poorly" educated and low information voters.  It makes them feel good to criticize the evil well educated "elites".  It implies that what they describe as “common sense” is more important than the knowledge and structure of what higher education brings to the world.

So exactly what is the meaning or explanation to the phrase “common sense”.  It’s a way of passively gaslighting any debate on the subject.  It’s a phrase that people use when they can’t or don’t want to explain their side of the issue.  Or they refuse or don’t want to listen or undertand another perspective or version of “common sense”.

The fact is that the meaning of “common sense” is extremely vague.  That’s why this form of gaslighting works so well.  "Poorly" educated people like the idea that they are using “common sense” when they disagree with their educated political opponents.  After all, in their minds, since they won the election, they can say and do whatever they want, and then call it “common sense”.  Everyone wants to believe they have common sense.

You won’t hear well educated elites using vague reasoning when we debate and explain our position on issues.  That’s because we have positions based on consideration of many details and circumstances.  In other words, we know the world does not always fit into simple but absolute black and white rules.  Context matters.  Some facts may outweigh other facts’ importance.  It’s called having good judgment.   We know that it takes a lot more thought and effort to consider the situation from more than one perspective.  That also requires empathy.

"Poorly" educated people prefer to stick to black and white absolutes to simplify their lives.  It’s much easier living that way rather than having to spend more time to use good judgment.  That’s why they like to say they have “common sense”.
